IBM Servers and Storage Systems – powerful back end for video surveillance systems
The amount of data storage required for multi-camera IPVS systems depends on these factors:
- Number of cameras in the network
- Camera resolution
- Compression codec (Motion JPEG, MPEG-4 and H.264)
- Video retention time
- Amount of video activity to be recorded (motion/non motion)
Ojo Technology can provide a storage system that meets your needs and budget. The system should also be capable of future expansion to accommodate additional and/or higher-resolution cameras.
Here are several IBM products that are suitable for IPVS systems.
RACK-MOUNT SERVERS
IBM System x3250 Server – This single-socket server offers 2 terrabytes (TB) of storage and comes in a compact (1U or 1.75-inch) footprint. This is well-suited to small or mid-size installations of up to 30 cameras. The x3250 is built with the latest Intel® Xeon® 3400 Series (quad-core) or Celeron®, Pentium® or Core™ i3 dual-core processors.
IBM System x3620 M3 – Built on the latest Intel® Xeon® technology, the x3620 M3 gives growing installations an affordable alternative to traditional enterprise server offerings. It has integrated software RAID and support for as many as eight high-capacity 3.5” hard disk drives, which can accommodate maximum internal storage of up to 16 TB. This is ideal for larger installations of up to 70 cameras.
IBM System x3630 M3 – This is a storage-rich, dual-socket 2U (3½-inch footprint) server that provides outstanding value to cost-conscious buyers. Based on the latest Intel® Xeon® processor technology, the x3630 M3 offers high performance and maximum storage capacity – up to 28 TB for a much lower cost per terabyte than external storage. Features include redundant cooling fan modules and hot-swap/redundant power supplies, RAID protection and predictive failure analysis. Recommended for robust systems of more than 100 cameras.
STORAGE SYSTEMS
IBM System Storage DS3200-DS3400 Express – When you need additional storage to augment server capacity, this series of storage systems offers tiered storage (assigning different categories of data to different types of drives in order to reduce total storage cost) and are scalable to allow for expansion with the addition of more hard disk drives. They work in tandem with IBM and select third-party servers, and can be equipped with a maximum of 48 drives in four enclosures for a total of 96 terabytes of storage. Selection of a specific model depends on the host interface.
IBM System Storage DS3500 Express – This system can support up to 96 drives (with mixed drive types) in a 2U, 19-inch, industry-standard rack, allowing for scalability with growing capacity demands. Offering a simple, efficient and flexible approach to storage, the DS3500 is a cost-effective, fully integrated complement to System x® servers.
